About DNSS

NEW - Follow DNSS on Twitter - Click the link above.

DNSS is what we call our adult teaching time at Grain of Wheat. It stands for "Definitely Not Sunday School." The "Not" part suggest that we do things a little different.

At DNSS there are more conversations and less lectures, more ways to engage the senses such as books, film, music and maybe even some art, and more open questions that we will discern and answer together.

DNSS sometimes happens on Sundays, but it might change your mind about what is meant by, "Sunday School".

Our current book study series is being hosted at Craig and Kerry's house - 7:30 on Mondays.

Crucial Conversations

Thanks for the wonderful, and thoughtful conversation about the Rohr podcast.

For the next few weeks, we will be looking at the idea of Crucial Conversations (inspired by the book of the same name).

Come on Tuesday, 7:30, there is no need to read the book. We will talk about what makes a conversation crucial, and what you do when the stakes are high.

See you then (Craig's house).

Paradox

Well, some might say it is a paradox of what happened to the DNSS blog - is it still around?

Yes. Just been on a bit of a long break.

It was great to see so many people out for the Richard Rohr webcast, and thank-you for your donations. I will be sending those along to the Rohr Center.

This Tuesday is a chance to talk about some of things you heard on the webcast. Namely, this concept of paradox, and how we struggle (as dualistic people) to hold things that are "both/ and" (as opposed to either/or)

Looking forward to it. 7:30 this Tuesday night, Oct. 9th.

Grace - Is it irresistible?

Tonight, I am going to be wrapping up the series on grace.

A question that has been rolling about in my brain since beginning my reading on the topic - What is our role?

That may seem a bit too open-ended, broad, and in contrast to what I have been saying all along - that we don't have to do anything to earn grace (and how it is not a transaction).

Still, we ware human. And our very human response to a concept like grace is, "Well, what do we do with this?"

Tonight, I will be combining this question with the theological concept of "irresistible grace" (a much argued over topic).

And of course, there will be a short movie clip.

See you then. Tuesday, 7:30, Craig's house.

Nothing but answers

As said in my announcement after worship, tonight's DNSS is all about answers. I mean, we all have questions about grace, and the eucharist, and baptism, and sacraments in general - but wouldn't we all like some frim answers?

Well, I got them.

But I am not saying to what questions.

Come join us for Grace Part Three - From the Sacraments to Evangelism in a few easy steps. Oh, and we will watch part of a western.

Now, if that doesn't get you interested...

Tonight, 7:30 at Craig's.

A week off

A week off from Grace? Well, no, that never ends.

But I am going to be in Toronto for a few days, so there is no DNSS next week (May 8th).

We will continue the series the following week: Tues. May 15 - 7:30 at Craig's house.

Very much enjoying our conversations thus far - many great insights on the topic of grace, and how each of us approach it. Whoops, "approach" is a verb, and as Larry reminds us, we can't use verbs when trying to explain grace.
